Zach Makovsky: Title Bouts Easier to Handle Mentally Than Non-Title Bouts

Bellator bantamweight champion Zach Makovsky, on “Beatdown,” discussing his two non-title bouts: “When it comes down to it, every time you get in there, it’s a fight. Really whatever’s on the line and whatever happens afterward is kind of secondary. When you’re in there, you’re in there with another guy and you’re fighting and it’s just a fight. I try to keep that mentality, but I think, honestly, I feel a lot of pressure in those non-title fights. I would have rather the belt been on the line both times because I think it’s a weird situation where if you would lose one of those fights, you’re still considered the champion. It would have been hard for me to still walk around with the belt and consider myself the champion after losing to a guy who they put in there -- who really you’re supposed to beat. Those are kinds of tricky situations. I prefer that I have my belt on the line every time I fight. I think it’s a little bit easier to handle mentally.”
