Can Chris Weidman shock the world a second time? | Photo: Gleidson Venga

Chris Weidman does not lack confidence.

Weidman will defend the Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight crown in a rematch with former champion Anderson Silva at UFC 168 on Dec. 28 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The Serra-Longo Fight Team representative dethroned Silva at UFC 162 in July, as he delivered a shocking second-round knockout against a fighter who had not legitimately lost in nearly nine years.

As Weidman approaches his second encounter with “The Spider,” he sounds intent on keeping the gold around his waist. In a pre-fight interview with UFC.com, the 29-year-old outlined his plans for the rematch.

“I’m telling Anderson Silva my game plan,” Weidman said. “This is my game plan: I’m going to walk forward, I’m going to put pressure on him [and] I’m going to cut him off. If he has his hands down, I’m punching him in his face. If he has his hands up and he’s expecting me to punch him in the face, I’m taking him down. I’m not afraid to get hit. I’m going to be walking forward with my chin down and my teeth gritted. I don’t care what he throws at me. I’m going to be there.”
