A two-time Abu Dhabi Combat Club Submission Wrestling World Championships gold medalist, Renzo Gracie will celebrate his 47th birthday on March 11.
Gracie compiled a 13-7-1 record as a professional mixed martial artist, competing in Pride Fighting Championships, the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Strikeforce and the International Fight League over a career that stretches all the way back to 1992. The grandson of Brazilian jiu-jitsu founder Carlos Gracie, he defeated four former UFC champions during his successful run in MMA: Maurice Smith, Pat Miletich, Carlos Newton and Frank Shamrock, the latter by disqualification in 2007. Gracie strengthened his resume as one of the sport’s most trusted and revered trainers, overseeing the careers of onetime UFC welterweight champion Matt Serra and former middleweight King of Pancrase Ricardo Almeida. He also worked alongside Georges St. Pierre, Frankie Edgar and Roy Nelson.
