Spike Weigh-in Results: Lara, Foreman on the Money

Spike is ready for its first event of 2017 and on Friday night down at the Hialeah Park Racing and Casino in Hialeah, Florida, one of the best pure boxers in the world will be in action. Cuban defector Erislandy Lara will headline the next installment against Yuri Foreman and at Thursday’s weigh-ins, both men came in on the money.

Foreman (34-2, 10 KOs), who was once a promising junior middleweight contender before dropping back-to-back battles to Miguel Cotto and Pawel Wolak, quietly returned from nearly a two-year absence from the ring. The former WBA super welterweight champion has reeled off six straight wins; his most recent a TKO over Jason Davis in June. His streak of success has landed him the position he’s wanted since losing his belt to Cotto in ’10, which is another chance at capturing the title. The Ukrainian native came in at 153.2 pounds.

Lara (23-2-2, 13 KOs) has long been one of the slickest, trickiest opponents for everybody he’s faced. “The American Dream” has only two razor-thin losses on his ledger, having dropped a disputed majority verdict to Paul Williams in ’11 and then a controversial split nod to Saul “Canelo” Alvarez three years later. Lara captured his WBA 154-pound crown in his next fight by dominating Ishe Smith and has defended it thrice. His most recent successful defense came last May when he edged Vanes Matirosyan over 12 rounds. Like the challenger, Lara came in on weight; he tipped the scale at 154 pounds.

The action will go down live on Spike beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.

Weigh-in Results:

Erislandy Lara (154) vs. Yuri Foreman (153.2)
Anthony Dirrell (169.8) vs. Norbert Nemesapati (168)
