Rau’Shee Warren to Fight McJoe Arroyo on Garcia-Broner Undercard

Former WBA bantamweight world champion Rau’Shee Warren will look to bounce back from a February loss when he takes on McJoe Arroyo. The two will collide in a junior bantamweight eliminator in one of the featured bouts of the massive Mikey Garcia – Adrien Broner event on July 29 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Warren, who represented the U.S. at the 2012 Olympics, lost his WBA strap to Zhanat Zhakiyanov via split decision in Ohio the last time he climbed through the ropes. The Cincinnati native has lost two of his last three overall and knows another loss could be crippling to his chances of fighting for another world title and knows the time is now to get back on track.

“I'm hungry to get back in the ring and get myself back into world title contention with a win on July 29,” said Warren (14-2, 4 KOs). “I know that I'm going to be a world champion again and that all starts with this fight. I've been working hard in the gym and getting comfortable at the smaller weight. I'm going to be ready to perform when fight night comes.”

Arroyo (17-1, 8 KOs) is also looking to get back in the winner’s circle as the Puerto Rican tasted defeat for the first time ever as a pro the last time he fought. Arroyo dropped a unanimous nod to Jerwin Ancajas last September, losing his IBF super flyweight title in the process. Arroyo is hungry to eventually fight for another world title as well.

“I've been training a long time for this matchup as we awaited the official fight date,” said Arroyo. “This is a good opportunity for me and I am going to be at my best to win this fight and get a world title opportunity. I know Warren is a good boxer, so I will be in great shape.”

Aside from the headlining battle between Garcia and Broner, the Showtime telecast will also feature an intriguing matchup between Jermall Charlo and Jorge Sebastian Heiland.
