Pat Barry on Matchup Against Lavar Johnson: It’s Not Kickboxing

Pat Barry, on “Beatdown,” discussing if he’ll try to take down Lavar Johnson if he’s struggling against him on the feet:

“My ego is not big enough to avoid that. If I have to, if I can’t beat him standing -- which will be a surprise on my part, but I know it’s possible -- I’m going to have to take him to the ground. That’s what’s going to have to happen. Now is that the plan? No. We’ll know fight night. … I’m not ruling [a submission] out against anybody, ever. I’m going to do whatever it takes to win. That’s just the name of the game. It’s not a kickboxing match anymore. It’s MMA. Anything goes, for the most part. You can beat a guy standing, beat a guy on the ground, beat him with strikes, beat him with a submission. Whatever it takes to win. If a submission is there, I’m not going to pass it up just to go for a knockout, no way. If a submission finish is there, I’m going to grab it and see what I can do with it.”
