PBC on CBS Finalizes Solid Undercard to Dirrell-Rubio

The hits keep on coming with Premier Boxing Champions, the sport’s fastest-growing promotion.

Already an established powerhouse in the Sweet Science, the next iteration of PBC on CBS was already intriguing with its super middleweight main event between Anthony Dirrell (27-1-1, 22 KOs) and Marco Antonio Rubio (59-7-1, 51 KOs).

Now it’s even more alluring with the recently-announced undercard.

The co-featured bout between Jamie McDonnell (26-2-1, 12 KOs) and Tomoki Kameda (31-1, 19 KOs) is expected to be an absolute barnburner. McDonnell is looking to defend his WBA bantamweight title for the third time, but rival Kameda has other plans. The two fought a terrific battle in May where the Japanese fighter scored a second round knockdown. The champ stormed back in the contest and walked away with his title after barely edging Kameda via unanimous decision.

Kameda has been on a crusade to land the rematch and got it; now it’s his chance to prove to the world that he is the better man and the best at 118 pounds.

Premier Boxing Champions announced early Wednesday that another bantamweight showdown will anchor the televised portion of the card as former two-time champ Daiki Kameda, brother of Tomoki, will square off against Victor Ruiz.

Kameda (29-4, 18 KOs) held the WBA and IBF versions of the junior bantamweight titles at different times. He lost his IBF belt to Liborio Solis in December 2013 -- the fight was also for the vacant WBA version -- and he hasn’t fought since. Kameda is looking to get his career back on track against Ruiz (19-5, 14 KOs), who has won five of his last eight fights. He fought on Aug. 22 where he torched Felix Rubio in the first.

The off-TV prelims feature a plethora of unbeaten contenders: Miguel Flores (16-0, 7 KOs) faces John Johnson (31-10, 23 KOs) in an eight-round super featherweight bout; Mario Barrios (10-0, 5 KOs) battles Jonathan Perez (33-12, 27 KOs) in eight rounds of super featherweight action; Ryan Karl (8-0, 6 KOs) competes in a six-round welterweight affair; Rickey Edwards (7-0, 2 KOs) against Marco Solis (3-1, 1 KO) in a six-round lightweight attraction; Jeremy Longoria (7-5, 1 KO) squaring off against Alberto Espinoza in six rounds in the super featherweight division, as well as other bouts

The PBC on CBS event will air live on Sunday, Sept. 6 starting at 4 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT. IT will be held inside the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.
