Guerrero, Peralta Both Confident of Victory in PBC Main Event

On Saturday night, Premier Boxing Champions returns to Spike for another edition of solid boxing action. The main event of the latest PBC on Spike event will see former multi-division world champion Robert Guerrero taking on David Peralta in a critical welterweight showdown.

The two weighed in right on the money at Friday’s weigh-ins, clearing the final hurdle for their 147-pound affair. It’s a match that “The Ghost” can ill-afford to lose if he’s to eventually get back to form when he was standing toe-to-toe with elite opponents like Keith Thurman and Floyd Mayweather Jr. The Californian is coming off a heart-breaking loss to Danny Garcia and he wants nothing more than to oppose “Swift” again.

But before he can do anything, he has to first get past Peralta, a dangerous man who isn’t well-known outside of his native Argentina.

“I got a chance to size him up today,” Guerrero (33-4-1, 18 KOs) said at the final post-fight press conference. “I saw how tall he is. After looking at him, I know he’s coming to fight. I’m expecting a war. Like all Argentine fighters, I know he’s got that hunger to prove he’s worthy of this big opportunity and make the most of it. I am expecting a tough fight for sure. This is like a world title shot for him. I don’t know what he is going to bring to the table and that is exciting for me.”

Peralta (25-2-1, 14 KOs) knows what’s at stake and a win over someone like Guerrero would be a boon for his career. This will be the first time “El Pirata” will be fighting outside of his homeland and he has never faced an opponent with the experience or skill as Guerrero, but that’s not deterring him from trying to score the upset.

“I want to go down the same path as Marcos Maidana and Lucas Matthysse,” Peralta said at the presser. “They were given great opportunities in their careers and took advantage of them. I am going to take advantage of this opportunity. I am well prepared. I came here to fight. I am going to throw a lot of punches, move around and be ready to get the decision.”

The action will go down live on Spike at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT from inside Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. Middleweights Alfredo Angulo and Freddy Hernandez will look to tear into each other in the co-feature while Terrell Gausha will oppose Steve Martinez, also at 160 pounds.
