David Benavidez to Fight Ronald Gavril for WBC Super Middleweight Title on Sept. 8

Premier Boxing Champions and Showtime announced on Thursday that David Benavidez and Ronald Gavril will go head-to-head for the vacant WBC super middleweight world title on Sept. 8. The two will collide in the main event of Showtime Boxing: Special Edition from The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

Benavidez (18-0, 17 KOs) has been tearing everybody apart inside the ring and is considered by many within the sport as one of the best young contenders at any weight. The Phoenix-based fighter feasted on solid opposition over the last 18 months, with his last triumph coming in May when he stopped longtime veteran Rogelio Medina.

Gavril (18-1, 14 KOs) has won seven in a row since suffering the only loss of his pro career. The Romanian captured a regional 168-pound title last October and is coming off a stellar performance in April where he scored a TKO of Decarlo Perez.

Also slated for the telecast is a showdown between J’Leon Love (23-1, 13 KOs) and Abraham Han (26-3, 11 KOs), also at super middleweight. Opening the Showtime broadcast will be Caleb Plant (15-0, 10 KOs) against fellow 168-pounder Alan Campa (16-3, 11 KOs).

The action will go live on the cable giant beginning at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.
