Cornelius Bundrage to Defend Title Against Jermall Charlo July 25
Cornelius Bundrage is slated to defend his IBF super welterweight
title on July 25 against mandatory challenger Jermall Charlo,
according to a report from
Boxingscene.com. The city and venue has yet to be determined,
but the bout will be a part of the Premier Boxing Champions series.
It remains to be seen which network will land the duel.
Bundrage (34-5, 19 KOs) initially won the title when he stopped Cory Spinks in the seventh round back in June 2012. He lost the belt several months later when Las Vegan Ishe Smith outpointed him over 12 rounds in Bundrage’s hometown of Detroit. “K9” was able to recapture the title last October when he decisioned Carlos Molina (who snatched it via decision from Smith) over 12 rounds down in Cancun.
Charlo, a Texas native, has yet to lose as a pro. Though he hasn’t faced elite level competition thus far in his still-blossoming career, he certainly has taken care of enough quality foes to earn his spot in this fight. Charlo (21-0, 16 KOs) last fought in March when he outpointed tough veteran Michael Finney over 10 rounds at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.
A co-featured bout and full undercard are scheduled to be announced in the coming weeks.
