Boxing Purses: Deontay Wilder Earns $1 Million, Bermane Stiverne $910,000 for Heavyweight Bout
Bermane Stiverne has the WBC heavyweight title, but challenger
Deontay Wilder will take home the larger paycheck.
On Thursday, the Nevada Athletic Commission revealed the salaries for Saturday’s championship bout and surprisingly Wilder will bank $1 million dollars, compared to Stiverne’s $910,000.
The event will emanate from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas
and be televised live on Showtime.
Wilder comes into the bout represented by Al Haymon, and owns an impeccable record of 32-0, with all wins coming by way of knockout. Some critics question the quality of the 29-year-old’s prior opponents, but the general consensus is that Stiverne is his stiffest test yet.
Stiverne finished Chris Arreola in two straight bouts to lay claim to the vacant WBC crown. The lone loss on the Haitian’s record came in 2007.
